Paying Tribute To Those Who Wore The Uniform

University Community Gathers to Honor Veterans and Their Families

The 青年涩导航 community paused from classes and work Nov. 10 to gather on the Student Green at Risman Plaza and show their respect as part of Veterans Day. (Note: 青年涩导航 and many other universities hold services on the day preceding Veterans Day as the university is closed for the federal holiday.)

青年涩导航 President Todd Diacon welcomed those in attendance to the program titled 鈥淗onoring All Those Who Serve,鈥 which included a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from 青年涩导航鈥檚 Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC programs. Tim Coyne, senior business manager for 青年涩导航鈥檚 Division of Student Affairs, served as bugler while the national anthem was performed by student Elyse McCullough. 

Maureen McFarland, Ph.D., a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Aeronautics and Engineering at 青年涩导航, served as emcee. 

N. J. Akbar, Ph.D., who served in the U.S. Army and is currently the associate vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at 青年涩导航, delivered the keynote address to several hundred people in attendance.

Visit 青年涩导航's Center for Adult and Veteran Services to learn more about how the university supports veterans. 

Earlier this year, 青年涩导航 exemplified its leadership in its mission to support students as the Kent Campus was designated a Military Friendly庐 School for the 13th consecutive year, earning a Gold award. In addition, 青年涩导航 at Trumbull earned a Silver award.
