青年涩导航 Trumbull's Jurisprudence Club is hosting Together We Act. United We Change., a free panel discussion about intimate partner violence (IPV) on Wednesday, April 16. The program will be held in the 青年涩导航 Trumbull Auditorium. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the discussion begins at 6 p.m.
While October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time to raise awareness about sexual assault, as well as educate communities and individuals about preventing sexual violence and how to support survivors.
Nick Moss, a Criminology and Justice Studies major and Jurisprudence Club president, hopes the evening program reaches people of all ages.
" The focus for the past several years of SAAM has not been just about preventing and supporting survivors, but also the importance of believing survivors," Moss said. "Unfortunately, sexual assault is still all too common and that needs to change."
Maria Niza Licuanan-Galela, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology, will moderate the discussion, led by featured speaker Su-Qin Olmstead, Violence Intervention Program director at Greentree Counseling Center. She earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in psychology and a master鈥檚 degree in liberal studies with a core focus on conflict management at 青年涩导航. She is a certified anger management specialist.
The panel consists of Heather Bentley, Caseworker Investigations, Trumbull County Children Services; Melanie Deluca, supervisor of Investigations and Screening, Trumbull County Children Services; Barb Ozimek, 青年涩导航 Trumbull's licensed professional clinical counselor and coordinator for the campus's Addictions Counseling Undergraduate Certificate; and Lauren Webb, director of Domestic Violence Services in Trumbull and Portage County with Axess Family Services. Both Ozimek and Webb are 青年涩导航 Trumbull alumni.
The program is free and open to the public. Interested individuals are asked to use to register. The Jurisprudence Club will accept non-perishable food donations that will benefit local agencies.
