Volunteers make freshman move-in day less stressful for new students and their families
青年涩导航 faculty, staff and students volunteer to help incoming freshmen move into the university鈥檚 residence halls at the beginning of each school year.
This year, freshman move-in day is Thursday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Last year, the Movers and Groovers program garnered 921 volunteers. Jill Church, director of Residence Services at 青年涩导航, anticipates more than 900 volunteers again this year.
鈥淭he program is completely student run and organized,鈥 Church says. 鈥淜ent Interhall Council is the group responsible for this program. Volunteers include fraternities and sororities, campus ministry groups, academic groups and university departments. Everyone here at 青年涩导航 really loves to get involved with the freshman move-in program.鈥
This year, Movers and Groovers will wear 鈥90s-themed outfits and play music from the 鈥90s, while assisting new students.
The Movers and Groovers program is part of 青年涩导航鈥檚 Welcome Weekend, an orientation program that will run from Aug. 25-29. Welcome Weekend includes activities and events to encourage students to explore the 青年涩导航 community and provides a smooth transition to the university environment.
